The Marriott Marquis Houston is nestled right in the heart of the hustle and bustle of the city. From people attending events at the convention center, to families playing at Discovery Green, and endless amounts of sports happening just minutes away the Marquis feels a bit like a tropical oasis perched above the noise of the city. We spent our weekend lounging under palm trees sipping pineapple smoothies, eating our way through the city and of course floating the Texas shaped lazy river. The Houston Marriott Marquis is truly the perfect city escape without having to actually leave Houston city limits!

Enjoy Brunch at Dish Society

Dish Society
1050 Yale St #100 Houston, TX 77008
They are dedicated to using high quality ingredients and it shows in the quality of their food. They source a majority of their items locally from Texas farmers like Atkinson Farms, Black Hill Ranch, and Ives Creek Organics just to name a few. Some things we recommend are their house favorites including chicken and biscuits as well as brisket and eggs. For kids meals you can’t go wrong with the classic eggs and bacon plate or sweeten things up with the Nutella french toast bites which my kids devoured. Some of our favorite side dishes are the pancakes with fresh fruit, skillet potatoes, mixed fruit, and sausage patties. Also enjoy a wide variety of drinks like organic apple juice, fresh mimosas, coffee, fruit infused water, and fresh green juice.

Float the Texas Shaped Lazy River

You can’t visit the Marriott Marquis Houston and not take a few laps around the lazy river. Located on the sixth floor and probably the most known hotel pool in all of Houston, the Texas shaped lazy river brings in locals and out of town visitors alike. Float on tubes or simply let the current carry you around the shape of our great state! We visited in February and while it was a little chilly outside we were still able to enjoy the pool for a while since it’s heated. I wouldn’t say it was hot but definitely not as cold as it would have been had it not been warmed.

Enjoy Texas BBQ at The Pit Room

The Pit Room
1201 Richmond Ave
Houston TX 77006

The Pit Room is a force to be reckoned with! Named one of Texas Monthly’s top 50 barbecue joints in Texas this place lives up to they hype. I’ve eaten a lot of Texas BBQ in my day and this is hands down my new favorite spot. My husband had been bragging about this place for months and I finally got to try it out! Definitely didn’t disappoint. Some of my favorites were the queso, sausage, jalapeno sausage, sliced brisket, mac and cheese, elote, charro beans, green beans, and okra.

Lounge poolside or warm up in the hot tub

If you start feeling dizzy floating around the lazy river, go relax in the pool. They have lounge chairs placed in the shallow end of the pool so you can still stay cool while enjoying sunbathing.

Ready to really heat things up? Jump in the hot tub for some refreshing and relaxation. Keep in mind the hot tub is for ages 18 and up. The views from the hot tub are incredible. Enjoy overlooking Discovery Green while you relax and unwind.

Enjoy the view at The Marriott Marquis Houston Lazy River and Parkview Terrace

Sip and stay at the High Dive bar and grill

Enjoy you favorite beverage and take in the view from the High Dive rooftop bar and restaurant. Also located on the sixth floor next to the pool and lazy river, enjoy their amazing customer service and delicious food and drink options. We enjoyed snacking on the quesadillas and the high dive burger while we were poolside. It’s so convenient not having to pack up and change to grab the kids a quick bite mid swim! We also grabbed our favorite soda and some delicious pineapple smoothies! Check out their full menu!

Watch the sunset from the rooftop deck

After you’ve spent all day hanging out on the rooftop pool walk toward the very back of the patio and find an amazing view of Houston’s skyline. Here you’ll see 712 Main which from 1929-1963 stood as the tallest building in Houston. It now ranks at 52! Catch the golden rays at the sun sets on this magnificent city before you step out for the evening.

Grab a pizza from Frank’s Pizza

Franks Pizza
417 Travis St
Houston, TX 77002

Just a short ten minute drive from the hotel is Frank’s Pizza located in the heart of downtown’s historical district. Handmade giant slices of New York style pizza in whole pies or by the slice – this place is delicious. They also serve wings, lasagna, burgers, sandwiches, and desserts. We loved their pizza and wings and laid back environment!

Go mural hunting

It seems like every corner you turn there’s a new mural for you to snap a pic of! Enjoy running around the city discovering new ones or visit some of our most classic ones. Some of our favorites are:

  • ‘Houston is Inspired’ – 313 Travis St Houston
  • ‘Greetings from Houston’ – 3601 White Oak Dr
  • Montrose Paint Wall – 1435 Westheimer Road

Lounge in a pool cabana

Elevate your pool stay by renting a cabana and avoiding some of that scorching Texas sun. They’re available first come first serve so make sure to get there if you have your heart set on one. Choose from a day bed, cabana, pergola, single gazebo or double gazebo. You can also choose to reserve for a half day or the full day!

Renew and refresh at Pure Spa
